Infiltrated elements killed Sudan’s protesters, says presidential aide

September 28, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese presidential aide and deputy leader of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) said Saturday that his government would not allow chaos to settle in the country, adding that innocent protesters are killed by infiltrated elements.

Nafei Ali Nafie made his remarks in a speech delivered before two thousand NCP members in Al Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state where the rebels attacked Um Rwaba town last April.

The government would not allow the reign of insecurity and the killing of innocent people under any pretext of slogan, Nafie said, adding there are subversive elements infiltrating demonstrations who kill the protesters.

Nafie went to call on the “patriotic opposition” to not allow the infiltrators to perpetrate acts of sabotage and to kill citizens.

The presidential assistant further denied that regular forces used live ammunition to kill the demonstrators during la past four days.

Reports from activists and eyewitness say police officers and security members in plain clothes opened fire on the peaceful protesters since last Monday. The government said only 29 protesters were killed, but right groups and activists say over hundred people were killed.

The government deployed heavy armed troops on the strategic positions in the capital Khartoum.

Interior minister, Ibrahim Mahmoud, said on Friday that over 600 rioters were arrested, stressing that police even protect the demonstrators against those who attack public establishments and petrol stations.

The opposition parties condemned the lift of oil subsidies and called on their supporters to conduct peaceful demonstrations against the austerity measures.

On Saturday Khartoum witnessed several protests in different parts of the capital.

The Sudanese police said unknown gunmen shot the protesters in Khartoum North and the suburbs of Karrari and Umbada, killing four demonstrators on Saturday.

The police pointed out that investigations are taking place to determine the responsible of the shooting,. adding that the situation was calm in other parts of Khartoum state,

A commissioner of Khartoum state government, Gen. Abdel Karim Abdallah stated that the police quell the protesters because they include opponents, elements of the rebel Sudanese Revolutionary Front and criminals.

He added they target the houses of government officials, NCP offices and public institutions.
