Egypt, Sudan to sign next week four freedoms agreement
KHARTOUM, July 15, 2004 (SUNA) — President of the Republic Gen. Omer Al-Bashir and the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, are due to sign next week the agreement on four freedoms between Sudan and Egypt, said Foreign Minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail.
In a press statement upon return here Thursday noon after accompanying President Al-Bashir in his brief visit to Cairo, Dr, Ismail said that the Foreign Ministers of Sudan and Egypt will exchange the agreement documents in the following week at a meeting which would be held at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his brief visit to Cairo, President Al-Bashir congratulated President Mubarak on his recovery after a recent surgical operation which he underwent in Germany.
Dr. Ismail said that the two presidents have discussed progress of the bilateral relations between Sudan and Egypt, indicating that President Al-Bashir acquainted President Mubarak with the developments in Darfur issue.
He said that they also deliberated about the four freedoms agreement between Sudan and Egypt, which was approved by the parliaments of the two countries.
Dr, Ismail said that the Egyptian Prime Minister gave a briefing on implementation of agreed upon joint projects in the telecommunication, roads and trade fields.
He said that Presidents Al-Bashir and Mubarak called for convocation of the joint higher ministerial committee shortly to review implementation of the agreements which were signed by the two countries and to work out plans for implementing the four freedoms agreement.
He said that the two presidents also discussed Arab issues, top of them is the situation in Iraq, affirming that the Iraqi government which was set up by the United Nations was regarded as an important step for normalization of the situation in Iraq.
President Al-Bashir and Mubarak have discussed the conditions in Palestine and the recent resolution of the International Court of Justice regarding the Separation Wall established by Israel and the importance of its removal, the Foreign Minister said.
He said that the two presidents also underscored the importance of continuing of efforts for implementation of the Roadmap.
Dr. Ismail indicated that Presidents Al-Bashir and Mubarak further deliberated about the decisions of the recent African Summit.
He said that the Egyptian side was acquainted with the recent agreement which was signed by Sudan and the United Nations on Darfur issue.
