Man’s body found hanging from tree in Jonglei state
October 1, 2013 (BOR) – The body of a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday in the Jonglei state capital, Bor.
The deceased, whose identity remains unknown, is suspected to have taken his own life. No identification documents were found on him.
An eyewitness, who met him prior to his death, said she saw the deceased lying near Redeem church and that he had constantly complained of stomach problems.
“Yesterday, he [the deceased] was there in front of the church just lying … he said he had stomach problems”, she told Sudan Tribune.
Mach Bol, who was among the first people to see the body, said although it was difficult to identify the deceased, he suspects the man either hailed from Uganda or Kenya.
“I was the first to see the body hanging on the tree, I called the police officer to come and see. I don’t know who he is”, Bol told Sudan Tribune.
Visibly shocked residents were puzzled as to how the body came to be wrapped in white cloth and hanging from a tree.
Officials from the police investigation department said they would refrain from making public statements prior to receiving post-mortem results from Bor hospital.
No-one has been arrested in connection with the bizarre incident.
