E. Equatoria community urged to unite for peaceful co-existence

October 15, 2013 (TORIT) – The Otuho-speaking people in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria state have been urged to unite together for peaceful co-existence with other communities.

There have been reports of killings between members of the Otuho community, with sub groups within the tribe springing up, creating further divisions, while others are using these differences to their political advantage.

Cirino Hiteng, formerly the national minister for youth and sports said this at a meeting for intellectuals, women and youth from the community on Sunday.

He specifically urged them to work for peace and desist from fragmentation and division, which was becoming a widespread practice.

Charles Ojok, the Torit county commissioner meanwhile appealed to the Otuho community to join hands with the county authorities and state government to ensure they do not lag behind in development aspects.

The Otuho-speaking people are bordered by the Lokoro to the north, Bari on the west, the Acholi and the Madi in the south and Didinga and the Boya in the east.
