E. Equatoria governor launches initiative to improve service delivery

October 23, 2013 (TORIT) – The governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, has launched an interactive discussion with state employees in which they jointly discuss how best to improve on their performance and public service delivery to residents of the state.
On Wednesday, Lobong had discussions with staff at the ministries of agriculture, information and physical infrastructure.
In his message to the employees, the governor said the discussions are meant to inform state employees about his administration’s policy of using civil servants to take services closer to people in rural areas.
The governor encouraged the employees to remain committed in carrying out their duties despite challenges they encounter and that they should be ready for for deployment to the counties, payams and bomas.
The governor also announced that deployment of the state ministry employees to rural locations will start soon with each ministry remaining with only 20 staff to monitor those who will be working within the communities.
He explained that the ministry of agriculture employees are supposed to be on the ground as farmers are not found in the towns but rather in rural areas.
Consequently the governor directed the state minister of agriculture and his directors to expedite the arrangements for the deployment of employees to the counties. Such a move, he said would improve food production as a result of access to information by farmers from agriculture officials living within their communities.
However, the Governor’s announcement on the transfer of civil servants to the counties, payams and bomas was received with mixed reactions from employees.
The employees said there was no accommodation for them in the rural areas where the governor wants them transferred while others complained of low salaries.
