Eastern Equatoria holds agricultural trade show

October 25, 2103 (TORIT) – Eastern Equatoria state has, in a bid to enable farmers showcase their products, organised an agricultural trade show attended by thousands in the capital, Torit.
Speaking at the opening of the event, the state governor thanked the agriculture ministry and its partners for organising the show.
“The show is a mechanism to educate farmers and a means of creating relationship among the farmers in all the eight counties”, said Louis Lobong Lojore.
He said farmers were among the richest people in the world, unlike government officials who rely on monthly salaries.
John Ochan Bongomin, the state minister for agriculture said the show resulted from recommendations drawn after a review of its previous agricultural event.
“During the first agriculture show, all actors agreed that the agriculture show be an annual event in the state”, he said.
“The purpose of the second annual agriculture show is to enable farmers adopt diversify farming practices to increase agricultural and livestock productivity”, he said.
The show was organized by the state ministry of agriculture in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP) and other partners.
