The staff association chairman said the move followed recent appeals by government for various stakeholders to support thousands displaced by floods in the country.

“We have done this little contribution to our people as KCB national staff simply because we are South Sudanese societies in this bank and we can be tasked and task others in building our country. It is not the first time we ever did it”, said Noble Arem Riak.

Items donated, include 40 bags of flour, 20 Jerry cans of cooking oil, two sacks of sugar, assorted powdered juice, washing soap, tea leaves, among others.

“We call on others to emulate us contribute [the] little as we manage the crisis befalling our country,” Arem stressed.

Persistent floods, a government-led assessment showed, displaced over 220,000 people with at least 37,000 households affected. The most affected states were Jonglei, Warrap, Upper Nile and Unity.

On his part, however, the association deputy chairperson urged South Sudanese to learn the art of self reliance and desist from dependency on foreign donations.

“I urge the youth of South Sudan to know that the spirit of nationalism does no matter where they work or [are] employed. It has to be a feeling within you,” said John Ajok Garang.

Elia Lomuro, the country’s cabinet affairs minister appreciated the bank’s support to flood victims, saying the institution was the first to respond after government appeal.

An additional 3,000 SSP [$900] was victims of recent clashes at Juba military hospital by South Sudanese working at the bank’s Nairobi office.

In a related development, KCB South Sudan has officially opened its Nyakuron branch in the capital, Juba, adding to over 20 its sub-divisions in the entire country.

“The new branch will offer VIP, corporate and retails services to its clients. There is wide space for customers and ample parking space [within the premise]”, said branch manager, Taban Okech.

The bank, reportedly ranked top in the region in terms of assets with its deposit base at Shs287 billion up from Shs278 billion a year ago.
