Lakes: Yirol West commissioner denies sacking chief
November 5, 2013 (RUMBEK) – The commissioner of Yirol West county in Lakes state denied on Tuesday reports that he had dismissed the traditional chief leader of its Aluakluak payam.
On Sunday, commissioner Majak Ruei Angong chaired a community meeting in Aluakluak with seven chiefs of Geer and Alualluak, mainly aimed at halting the practice of fattening, where men drink milk and cow blood to boost weight increase.
The meeting also sought to create a special court to deal with crimes, including cattle raiding.
An official from Lakes state ministry of local government and law enforcement agency said on Monday the regional court president Malak Along Malak was removed from his position, a claim the commissioner denied.
The commissioner said the chief was not sacked, further emphasising that Sunday’s meeting only addressed issues concerning crime and internal administrative matters.
“Malak is still a chief and active in his position”, stressed Angong.
He said there were people spreading rumours in order destroy his image and have him removed from his current position.
“There are people aiming to destroy my career”, he said, warning of tough court actions against them.
