Jonglei: Armed men storm NGO compound in Bor

November 28, 2013 (BOR) – A group of armed men broke into the compound of the Catholic and Relief Service in Bor at about 2am on Thursday and made away with a number of laptops and other office items, sources in Jonglei state told Sudan Tribune on Thursday.

The stolen items included five laptops and one digital camera, according to the sources. Officials from the non-governmental organisation were not available for comment on Thursday.

People living in near the Catholic and Relief Service (CRS) compound in Bor told Sudan Tribune that “well organised and armed men” carried out the attack.

Nyaman Ayuen Manguak, who lives near the CRS compound said her family was woken by the security alarm which she believed was switched on by security guards when they detected the presence of armed men.

“It was my first time to hear such a loud alarm making noise at night. I thought it was an ambulance but it sounded different. I was scared”, said Nyaman.

Nobody has been arrested in connection of the attack but a source from Criminal Investigation Department told Sudan Tribune that the police were informed about the incident at 2.30am but did not have the capacity to respond.

Two months ago the office telecommunications company Zain, was looted in Bor, resulting in the loss of more than 100,000 South Sudanese pounds. Three bullets were fired to open the safe but the police, who regularly patrol the market, say they did not detect robbers.
