Timor-Leste offers $150,000 for school construction in Jonglei

December 6, 2013 (BOR) – Timor-leste’s prime minister Kay Raxlanana offered $150,000 for construction of primary school in Bor County of Malou village, during a visit to South Sudan’s Jonglei state on Friday.

Malou mixed primary school is expected to house to more than 1,000 pupils in the village of Malou and nearby villages of Bangachorot who currently are forced to travel long distances to Panwell primary school.

Delegates from the South East Asian country handed over the money to the state government in for the construction of the school at Malou on Thursday.

Timor prime minister of Kay Raxlanana who laid the foundation for the school urged the Jonglei state government to educate young children as they were the future of the country.

“These are the children the future of this, I believe that these children will one day appreciate the value of the liberation and the objectives of struggles”, said Kay.

Raxlanana said that the Democratic of Republic of Timor-Leste got its independence in 1975 after several years’ of semi-autonomous governance, following the dissolution of the Portuguese empire.

Emilia Pires, Timor-Leste’s finance minister gave a cheque of $150,000 to the state’s acting governor, Gabirel Gai Riam for the construction of the school.

“Our country was in the same situation as you are today, We get independence ten years ago and in the process we turned against ourselves, but we overcame it the challenges by saying enough is enough, You should also do the same with hop that this problem will end and you will prosper,” Emilia said.

The state is now left to a draw up a plan about which company will construct the new school.
