His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit

President of the Slava Kiir Mayardit Republic of South Sudan

The Republic of South Sudan

Dear Mr. President,

On behalf of Agaar Community in Canada, USA and Australia, we condemn the acts of violence which rocked our nations’ capital over the last few days and call upon those behind it to stop immediately to avoid any more bloodshed. We condemn in the strongest possible terms yet another coup attempt by the former vice president Dr. Riek Machar and his followers. This behavior has once again reminded the people of South Sudan of his infamous coup attempt of 1991 which resulted in loss of so many innocent lives and the split of the liberation movement SPLM/SPLA. Doubtlessly, all agree that without Mr. Machar’s first abortive Coup, the people of South Sudan would have been liberated way long before 2011.

We are writing to you also, dear Mr. President, to express our strong support for your leadership as our beloved country goes through this very difficult time. As a democratically elected president, you are the legitimate leader of our nation and any claim that suggests otherwise is false and must be rejected, In addition, we believe in peaceful transfer of power through the democratic process and not through violent means such as coup d’ etat. We deeply regret the loss of innocent lives as well as the alleged involvement of a dear son of Agaar Community, former governor of Lakes State, Eng. Chol Tong Mayay.

We are also taking this opportunity to appeal to the international community to support the fledgling democracy of our young nation, and we urge all Southern Sudanese communities and tribes where ever they are not to listen to those desperate opportunist politicians who seek power through violence. South Sudan belongs to all of us and it is the duty and an obligation upon each and every one of us to safeguard its unity, stability and build it for the generations to come.

Dear Mr. President,

while we have no doubt in your ability to bring an end to this calamity, we ask you to protect the lives of all South Sudanese including those suspected of involvement or of inciting the current acts of violence, till such a time when those suspected must face justice in a fair court of law.

As a community which is always mindful of and cares about the unity of our people, we appeal to you, Mr. President, to follow the good example of the recently passed African leader, the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, and see those politicians who are now in detention with the eyes of leniency and forgiveness, as late Madiba saw those who jailed him for 27 years. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the UN mission in South Sudan for their role in protecting the lives of thousands of civilian South Sudanese during the last few turbulent days of violence.

Finally, May God blesses your leadership and may he bless the Republic Of South Sudan.

Long live the Republic of South Sudan and long live the unity of South Sudan People.

Signed:

  1. Eng. Ezekiel Mabor Manguen Chairman of Agaar Community in Canada
  2. Mr. Daljeng Musa Mangok Chairman of Agaar Community in USA
