Umma party warns opposition leader against supporting splinter youth group
January 14, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – The National Umma Party (NUP) warned the head of opposition National Consensus Forces (NCF) Farouq Abu Eissa against interfering in its internal affairs after a meeting between the latter and a splinter youth group.
The NUP Supreme Coordination Council on Tuesday denounced the activities of a youth group called NUP Youth and Students saying they are undisciplined and adopt positions opposed to the political line of the party.
In the same time , the NUP spokesperson, Abdel Hamid Al-Fadl criticised Abu Eissa for meeting with this dissident group accusing him of agreeing with them to form a parallel structure called Umma Youth.
Al-Fadl further urged Abu Eissa to “stay away from cheap methods to gain support in the political arena”.
The breakaway group is opposed to the official line of the party calling for democratic transition in Sudan and against the use of violence to overthrow the government of president Omer Al-Bashir.
The opposition parties actually balm the NUP leader Sadiq Al-Mahdi, for his close relations with president Omer Al-Bashir and the formation of a joint committee with the ruling National Congress Party to discuss on national matters.
On 2 January, the opposition coalition slammed Al-Mahdi for accepting the highest national medal “Order of the Republic” from president Al-Bashir on the occasion of the Independence Day celebration.
Also, the members of the opposition alliance are in an open disagreement with the Umma party as they say supportive to a rapprochement and dialogue with the rebel groups.
