South Sudan army retake Malakal town

January 20, 2014 (JUBA) – South Sudanese army (SPLA) have retaken Malakal , another strategic town located 497km northeast of Juba, after engaging in a fierce fighting with members of the rebel groups, its spokesperson said Monday.

“The SPLA forces have taken complete control of Malakal town,. We have defeated the rebel elements that fled into disarray”, Colonel Philip Aguer announced Monday, without elaborating.
