Eritrean president hold talks with Sudanese opposition leaders

Isayas_Afewerki.jpgASMARA, July 22, 2004 (Shabait) — [Eritrean] President Isaias Afwerki yesterday received and held talks with the Chairman of the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Leadership Council, [?] Mohammed Osman Al-Mirghani, and the leader of the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement, Dr. John Garang, on the current political situation in the Sudan, the Sudanese peace process and the outcome of the recent meeting of the NDA Leadership Council.

During the meeting, President Isaias reaffirmed Eritrea’s support to a comprehensive settlement of the Sudanese problem and the implementation of the Jeddah agreements. The President also asserted the support of the people and Government of Eritrea to Naivasha Peace Agreement.

Noting the solid relations between the people of the two sisterly countries, President Isaias stated that the NDA has played positive role in its consolidation. He further underlined that Eritrea is striving to consolidate peace, stability, good-neighborliness and strong ties between the two countries.
