South Sudan’s presidential advisor Ted Dagne welcomed the activist who jetted into the country Friday.

It however remains unclear why activist, a co-founder of the Enough Project, is in the world’s youngest nation.

Together with George Clooney, Prendergast helped direct the Sudan Now campaign, which supported the holding of a peaceful referendum for South Sudan.

He currently serves as a board member and strategic advisor to Not On Our Watch Project; an organisation he founded with Clooney.

A recipient of several awards, including the Huffington Post 2011 Game Changer Award; the United Nations Correspondents Association Citizen of the World Award; the Lyndon Baines Johnson Moral Courage Award; the Princeton University Crystal Tiger Award and the U.S. Department of State Distinguished Service Award, among others, Prendergast is also a member of the faculty and Advisory Board of the International Peace and Security Institute (IPSI).
