Warrap lawmakers unanimously pass governor’s speech
February 17, 2014 (JUBA) – Warrap state’s parliament reopened his week by deliberating on a speech by Governor Nyandeng Malek Deliech outlining the government’s focus over the next period, which will include education, health, basic services delivery, and promoting human rights.
The sitting to discuss the government’s programme on Monday was chaired by the parliament’s Speaker Madot Dut Deng and was attended by 33 MPs.
Paul Dhel Gum, the state’s acting minister of information and communication said that the was passed unanimously, adding that “2014 is the year of unity and team work in Warrap state.”
This is the first time Warrap state lawmakers have passed Nyandeng Malek Delic’s speech without resistance since she was elected as South Sudan’s first and only female state governor in 2010.
The speech also calls for people to embrace peace and rise up to protect the sovereignty and legitimate government under leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is currently battling a rebellion in other parts of the young nation.
The speech was delivered by Warrap state’s deputy governor, Akec Tong. Governor Nyandeng was not present.
Warrap state’s government has experienced problems since South Sudan’s independence from Sudan in 2011 with many MPs opposing her leadership.
Dhel said:”Our people are expecting much from both the legislature and the executive in transform their living standard through agriculture, education and health services. I believe the commitment shown by our MPs and the roadmap drawn by the state governor will have a positive impact on the livelihood of our people.”
