UN handed facilities worth 50,000 Eastern Equatoria

February 25, 2014 (TORIT) – Eastern Equatoria state communities of Kapoeta South and Magwi counties have today been handed over community resources centers and police criminal detention facilities constructed by Undp under the Norwegian and Norway government support to help the interest of the population in those counties emerging from civil war challenges.

Speaking at the occasion in Kapoeta South and Nimule payam of Magwi county the residence coordinator of recovery, reintegration and peace building of the united nation mission in south sudan, Mr. Derek Segaa said the two project were approve by their institution after carrying out citizens need and priority identification to address immediate gaps in their society within those two counties of the state

Derek said all the two project costs fifty thousand (500, 000) USD meant to meet the proposed police shell facilities in Kapoeta South to help in the detention of Joveline and women as well the community resource centers were to help keep the youth, woman and societies living within the county busy other than indulging themselves in sinful acts.

He added that the Magwi project were divided into two category because of the need assessment conducted within the county hand making a youth center to be build in Nimule payam and a three room school build in jelei for madi corridor meanwhile the Acholi corridor demanded for school to be build in Offirika making it to be handed over to be owned by the community of those areas.

The recovery, reintegration chief is in Torit for three days to familiarizes with UNMISS team leaders and the state government after visiting the state ten years ago and to hand over community resources facilities funded by UNMISS through their quick impact project that were implemented within the state by Undp.

Upon his arrival he held meeting with UNMISS state coordinator Hiroko Mosko and his board in the state and state governor with his cabinent for having maintain peace and stability in Eastern Equatoria state and implementing approve community project in a transparent manner which will be managed by the county authorities as supported by RRP.

Recovery and reintegration and peace building and Undp team leader in Eastern Equatoria state Mr. Mohamed said it will be necessary for the completed projects to be handed over to the state county authorities and communities for them to manage as they will only come in to give as supporting hand in a short given time.

Kapoeta portal contains, two offices, internet café, conference hall solar panel, equipment and furniture’s and latrines connection to water system plus detention shelter for both jovelaiane and women and an office for police

While in Nimule portal its contains conference hall, internet café /ICT training center, women skills training center, solar panel system furniture and equipment plus latrine as replicate to offirika community of Acholi in Magwi county.

The state coordinator for UNMISS in Eastern Equatoria state hailed the county authorities in the two state counties for their productive initiative and priority of demanding for social resources centers that she said will impact greatly for the future dreams and challenges in its sustainability.

She caution the authorities to endeavor to lay out good plans to generate income to help sustain the facilities as she said their mandate is note to provides citizens with money but to give support ones they come with good development issues that promote peace and democracy.

“We can provides money my beloved community our mission and mandate is very clear yeah we can support creative and productive initiatives as we join hands to promote peace and coexistence” Hiroko Remarks

The state police commissioner Danima Henry hailed the funding donors through UNMISS and Undp for the support to the community within the state counties for having support to build detention center in Kapoeta South to help cheap their work

Danima appeal to the county business community in Kapoeta South to contribute fund to have finished the latrines to serves the detainees in the county headquarters.

The state minister of education youth and sport Michael Lopuke who travel together with the Unmiss delegates to witness the handover facilities said his ministry has secure some computers to be provided in the two facilities for the communities in those location to kick starts undergoing training in the newly open centers.

Lopuke calls on the funding donors to invest more on education to the youth not only of what they have carryout in the two counties they should also replicates to other counties of the state to help them benefits from the same services.

Meanwhile the state minister of local government Charles Lokonoi who was also the quest of honor at the handover function calls on the funding donors to extend their hands to state counties that have no training institution of such a community resources centers to enable them trained on several services ranging from computer to many more to help serves both sex other than cause a pointing of hand blaming government on the other hand.

Lokonoi calls on the two county authorities of Kapoeta South and magwi County to immediately formed a committee and open bank account to manage any little funds that might be release from rent and useage of the facilities to help in its sustainability.

He urged the communities within those counties to owned the facilities and managed it well to help serves future dream generation to attain training from those open centers through the help of the funding donors.
