Anti-smuggling policemen killed in Sudan’s eastern state of Kassala
March 21, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s police has announced that three of its anti-smuggling personnel have been killed on Thursday while they were chasing smugglers south of the eastern state of Kassala.
The director of Sudan’s general directorate of customs, Saif Al-Din Omer Suleiman, said the policemen were killed while hunting down a vehicle carrying smuggled goods, affirming that they died while they were performing their national duty of preserving the country’s wealth.
He underscored his forces’ ability to protect all borders against smuggling, calling upon various government agencies to continue supporting anti-smuggling forces through providing airplanes and advanced means for hunting down smugglers.
The funeral of the slain policemen was attended by Kassala state police director, Omer Al-Mokhtar, and a large crowed of regular forces and ordinary citizens.
Meanwhile, the Kassala state anti-smuggling police seized large quantities of imported wines that were on its way to Khartoum state and other states.
Al-Mokhtar said they recently seized large quantities of illegal drugs, adding that his forces and other regular forces are vigilant and ready to protect the society against all negative phenomena.
