Jonglei governor calls for looters to be arrested

April 10, 14 (BOR) – Jonglei state’s caretaker governor has urged the police to arrest people suspected of looting government and civilian property in the state capital of Bor since conflict began in December.

He accused some elements of the army and civilians of taking advantage of the insecurity situation and ransacking Bor. The state governor released his statement in Bor while addressing the state legislative assembly on Tuesday.

“It is unfortunate that our forces, civil population rather than rebel were deeply involve in the looting of public and private properties in Bor town. The state government will work harder to ensure that those who involve will be expose and brought to books,” said John Kong in Bor.

During the crisis, thousands of people were displaced, hundreds killed in the state.

Although the war, which began as a political dispute, has resulted in some divisions along tribal lines, Kong is still optimistic that unity among the people is possible.

“Despite the consequences of crisis, peace, reconciliation and unity must prevail in the state,” he continued.
