The call comes a month after armed youth stormed a UN camp in the state capital, Bor and exchanged gunfire with peacekeepers protecting displaced civilians.

“We should not scare them, the UMNISS [UN Mission in South Sudan] is here for our protection and all of us know that when there is a danger, we all run to UNMISS”, Jody Jonglei, the information minister said at Friday’s induction of the new cabinet.

At least two peacekeepers reportedly died with over 50 displaced civilians killed.

A group of youth from the Dinka ethnicity were demanding for the relocation of Nuer internally displaced civilians from the UN camp, claiming they were insecure there.

The incident, which initially started as a peaceful protest before it turned violent, was widely condemned by the UN secretary general and members of the Security Council.

A source within the UN camp in Bor told Sudan Tribune that the “most of the internally displaced people were taken out of Bor UN camp to unknown places”.

“Most of the people who are still awaiting for evacuation”, added the source.

Since the clashes that occurred at the UN base, its personnel have now confined themselves within their premises with very limited movements outside the camp.

Minister Jonglei, however, said government would ensure free movement of peacekeepers in Bor.

A committee to investigate the incident was recently set up, yet no one has been arrested a month after the violence that occurred in the country’s largest state.
