In a statement toSudan’s state media, Bashir thanked South Sudan’s Salva Kiir and Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni for their well wishes.

Museveni’s call is significant given that late last month his country accused Sudan of resuming its support for the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA)rebels.

Kampala and Khartoum have, in the past, traded accusations of supporting rebel groups. Sudan government says Uganda hosts Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) rebels.

Last week, Sudanese ambassador in Kampala Kamal Osman Ali said that his government has petitioned both the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) over what it considers Uganda’s subversive activities.
