Thousands of Sudanese university graduates apply to work for NISS

June 8, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – The National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) revealed that they have received 4,485 job applications from university graduates seeking to join the security apparatus as officers.

The NISS published paid advertisements in local newspapers soliciting applications from graduates who meet certain age and academic requirements and pass certain tests.

The president of the examination committee, Major General Salah al-Din Muhammad said that the first batch of candidates already sat for the written test last Friday.

He said according to an NISS statement, that the committee created a distinct environment with high potential for the candidates. He stressed that those taking the tests were from different parts of the country and from various educational backgrounds.

Maj. Gen. Muhammad emphasised that their selection prcoess was done in accordance with transparent and impartial criteria as the NISS is a national institution that is open to all Sudanese without discrimination.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) 2013 report puts Sudan unemployment at 20%.

Since the secession of the oil-rich South Sudan, the Sudanese economy suffered an economic shock marked by high inflation, eroding currency value and growing deficits.

Oil revenues constituted the majority of Sudan’s exports, national income and source of hard currency.

As a result, Sudanese graduates are seeking job opportunities abroad in Arab Gulf states or immigrating to western countries.
