S. Sudanese rebel leader appoints deputy chairs of national committees
July 2, 2014 (ADDIS ABABA) – South Sudanese armed opposition leader, Riek Machar, has appointed deputy chairs of national committees and senior officials charged with strategic planning in his office, a rebel leader’s media official said.
“Our chairman, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has appointed deputy chairs for the national committees and senior officials in charge of various specialised units in his office,” Machar’s spokesman, James Gatdet Dak, told Sudan Tribune on Tuesday.
In the recent appointments, Sophia Pal Gai, who was the ruling party’s secretary for administration while in government in Juba, has become the SPLM in opposition’s deputy chairlady for peace and national reconciliation committee.
Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, former South Sudanese diplomat to US is to deputize Dhieu Mathok Diing for the external relations committee, while Diew Charou deputises in the political mobilisation committee.
Manoah Peter Gatkuoth, a former minister in Jonglei state, is appointed deputy chairman for information and public relations committee chaired by Mabior Garang de Mabior, son of late founder of SPLM/SPLA, John Garang.
Iggrey Ezboni Idri, a banker, deputises for finance and resource mobilisation, while Tingo Peter has become the deputy chairman for agriculture. Manasseh Daniel Zindo is deputy chair for women and youth empowerment.
Ayii Ayii Akol is appointed deputy chairman for humanitarian affairs and Kwuong Dak Wieu, a former MP, deputises for the health committee. Mary Alphonse Nadio Lodira is deputy chair for the national committee for education.
In appointments for strategic planning officials in the office of the chairman, Sebit John Magok was appointed deputy chairman for federal governance system development unit while Duer Tut Duer has become the deputy chair for SPLM basic documents development unit and reorganisation of SPLM party.
Dak further explained that positions yet to be appointed include: military committee, deputy chair for justice and human rights, chairs and deputies for physical infrastructure development unit, public corporation enterprise development unit and anti-corruption measures development unit.
While the deputy chairman for the SPLM basic documents development unit is appointed, the chair is yet to be announced.
Secretaries to the national committees, representatives of the movement to various countries and senior assistants in the office of the chairman are yet to be appointed, he said.
