One killed, two injured in truck ambush on Juba-Bor road

July 5, 14 (BOR) – At least one person, believed to be from Ethiopia, was killed on Saturday after en route to Juba from leaving Jonglei state capital.
The truck came under gunfire near Bang-achorot, not far from the Jonglei-Central Equartoria border.

A source from Bor police told Sudan Tribune said that the alleged attackers were seen wearing the green uniforms of the national army (SPLA), carrying jerry cans and weapons.

The driver of the truck, who is believed to be an Ethiopian national, was killed instantly. His conductor, also from Ethiopia, and another passenger from Jonglei state’s Kolnyang payam (district) were also injured in the attack.

The two wounded were taken to Bor hospital, according to a relative of the injured Dinka man.

Mac Akoi Mac was shot in the chest, while the Ethiopian conductor suffered a light head injury and was later released from hospital.

Akem Chuti Joh, who took his cousin to hospital for treatment, said the group encountered the attackers while fetching water from a river.

“The attackers were many, but were not counted,” he said.

The incident has stirred debate among Bor residents, as speculation grows over who as responsible for the attack.

Some pointed the finger at Murle tribesmen, while others blamed Nuer soldiers who were said to have defected from Camp-15 near Kapeota in Eastern Equatoria state two weeks ago.

Others suspect Mundari criminals who have attacked and robbed buses in the past.

On 8 April, two middle-aged pastors and two other young men lost their lives in an attack at the same place. No suspects have been arrested.
