New Jonglei bishop to prioritise development in diocese
July 30, 2014 (BOR) – The new bishop of Jonglei state’s Athoc diocese says he will prioritise development in the area, urging the community to join hands with him in support to help establish schools and clinics.
Moses Anur Ayom, who was elected unopposed to the diocese earlier this month, told Sudan Tribune in the capital, Bor, on Wednesday that he would do his part to develop schools and health centres in the area.
“If God opens the way for me, I will build some schools and hospital,” said Ayom.
The Athoc diocese’s headquarters is based in Makol-cuei, where a cathedral built by Athoc businessman Kot Alat is also located.
Bishop Gai Manyok, who was nominated by the community without opposition, will head the Malek diocese.
The two new bishops will be sworn in during the next two months.
Formerly located in the diocese of Bor, Athoc and Malek were created as dioceses in 2011 and 2012.
