Machar appoints rebel representatives to UN, US
August 1, 2014 (ADDIS ABABA) – Former vice-president and leader of the opposition faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Riek Machar has appointed representatives of the rebel faction to the United Nations in New York and the US in Washington DC.
Machar appointed his former office’s assistant director for press and communications, Minyong Kuon, to represent the SPLM-IO in at the UN general Assembly in New York.
He also appointed Reath Muoch, a former MP in Juba to represent the movement in Washington DC.
Machar’s spokesperson James Gatdet Dak said the two officials are committed young cadres in the movement.
“Comrade Miyong Kuon and Comrade Reath Muoch are committed young cadres in the SPLM,” Dak said in a press statement he issued on Friday.
The movement, he said, has been without representatives to UN and US for the last seven months of the crisis in South Sudan.
