Egyptian FM visits Sudan on Saturday

CAIRO, July 30, 2004 (KUNA) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abu-Elgheit will visit Sudan on Saturday to deliver a letter from the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir.

Middle East News Agency said the letter is regarding the latest developments in Darfor and the Egyptian-Sudanese relationships.

The visit coincides with the Security Council’s resolution, which demands Sudan to disarm the militias and put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Darfor.

The Security Council said that it will reinforce economic sanctions and discontinue diplomatic relationships with Sudan if the Sudanese Government does not solve the Darfor issue.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson of the Arab League Hussam Zaki said that reinforcing sanctions on the Sudanese Government will not, in any way, help solve the Darfor conflict.
