Nigeria’s Obasanjo leaves for Sudan for talks over Darfur
ABUJA, Aug 1 (AFP) — Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, the current African Union (AU) chairman, left here Sunday for Sudan to meet with the authorities there over the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, airport officials said.
Last week, Obasanjo, in his capacity as AU chairman, sent a special envoy, former military leader Abdulsalami Abubakar, to Sudan and neighbouring Chad for talks on Darfur.
He is scheduled to pay a brief visit later Sunday to Libya on way back to Nigeria, officials said.
