Indian army makes donation to John Garang university students
October 8, 2014 (BOR) – The Indian battalion of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has donated books and balls as gifts to students at the Dr John Garang University of Science and Technology.
Col. Himanshu Hatkar, the battalion commander described the move as a small assistance extended towards to the institution.
“We are thankful for giving us the honour to be associated with this university, cradle for future leaders, future industrious citizens, professors and doctors of this great nation”, he said on Tuesday.
About 10 text books and eight ball were donated to Dr. Garang university.
“We have just begun the thousand mile journey to help improve the university,” said the battalion head as he handed over the donations to university administrators present in Bor, the Jonglei state capital.
Also underway, Col. Hatkar said, is a plan to prepare the university’s field to enhance sports activities among the student community.
David Malual Wuor, the university’s acting vice chancellor urged students to make good use of the items donated by the battalion.
“This gift is telling us that we should educate ourselves, promote peace among ourselves,” said Malual, adding that the university would in future collaborate with Indian institutions.
