East Darfur state imposes emergency order

October 14, 2014 (ED DAEIN) – The government of East Darfur state imposed an emergency order on Tuesday, including a curfew in the capital Ed Daein from 7pm to 6am.

Last July, the governor of South Darfur state, Adam Mahmoud Jar al-Nabi, declared an indefinite emergency situation in South Darfur state, including a curfew from 7pm to 7am in the capital Nyala.

The decision also banned riding of motorcycles by more than one person, holding weapons while wearing civilian clothes, driving unlicensed vehicles and wearing of Kadamool (turban which covers the face).

The commissioner of Ed Daein locality, Ali al-Tahir Sharif, said the curfew in Ed-Daein starts from 7pm to 6am, pointing the emergency order also banned driving of unlicensed motorcycles and vehicles and wearing of Kadamool.

On Sunday, the Sudanese army spokesperson al-Sawarmi Khaled acknowledged that a military officer was assaulted by angry crowd in Ed Daein.

According to al-Sawarmi, the attack on Brigadier General Essam Mustafa Srour who commands the 25th brigade in Ed Daein followed his attempt to convince the crowd to allow the departure of a train they blocked at the railways station.

Sharif revealed a plan to secure the town through raiding crime dens and pursuing outlaws, saying the plan will be carried out by all regular forces.

He told the pro-government Sudan Media Center (SMC) website that government efforts managed to resolve the problem between Rizeigat and Misseriya tribes in the locality of Abu Jabra.

The commissioner further underscored that security situation in the state is improving particularly in localities and areas on the borders with South Sudan.

Tribal clashes has intensified during the last two years in East Darfur state particularly between Rizeigat and Ma’alia tribes leading to the death of hundreds of tribesmen.
