Garang Deng Majak, who headed the electoral process, described the polls conducted in Kampala on Saturday as “free and fair”.

Emmanuel Majok Akuecbeny was elected the association’s new chairperson, defeating Akook Yai Akook by 148 votes, he said.

The new chairperson, in his speech, vowed to promote unity among all the South Sudanese students.

“I thank everyone who voted for me, and I promise to work for the unity of all students in order to collaborate with other South Sudanese associations,” Majok told students.

Aleul Riing Thuch was elected the association’s finance secretary while Angok Riing Mathiang is new secretary general.

Paul Duwar Bak, electoral commission secretary, thanked students for their conduct of the polls.

“We want to be exemplary to other association in conducting such organised elections, which met international standard and was credible, free and fair,” said Bak.

Kuol Jok Manyok, the former chairman of the students’ body, vowed to provide technical assistance to the association and its newly elected office bearers.

The association was established in 2010 as a platform to unite Warrap students in the various Ugandan colleges and universities.
