Thieves steal 518,774 SSP from Wau’s Agriculture Bank

October 20, 2014 (WAU) – The deputy managing director for the Western Bahr el Ghazal branch of the Agriculture Bank, Dhou Nuor Yisa, said thieves broke in overnight Saturday and stole 518,774 South Sudanese pounds (SSP).

Yisa told Sudan Tribune that staff learnt of the robbery early on Sunday when they arrived for work.

He said a team of bank and security staff had subsequently entered the building and confirmed the missing amount from the bank’s chest.

The manger said two policemen and one security guard were currently under investigation to determine how the thieves were able to enter the building.

This is not the first time financial institutions in Wau have been the target of robberies.

Last year, thieves broke into the Dabshill exchange, stealing millions of pounds.
