Tobiolo Alberto, the former chief whip becomes the new speaker replacing Emmanuel Ambrose Ocholimoi, who died earlier this year.

The acting assembly speaker, Paul Napwon, said lawmakers unanimously endorsed Tobiolo to the assembly position.

The newly elected speaker wowed to work together with the MPs and the executives as they strive to serve Eastern Equatoria citizens.

“I will be cooperating with everybody and cooperate with the executive and all those who love this state as their home as we all continue to advocate for peace,” said Tobiolo.

He also hailed those who opposed his nomination and election to the position of a speaker, saying it was within their democratic right to do so, and urged them to forget the past and move forward.

“I also promise you that, I will discharge my duties in consultative manner because the task that we are given to carry out in this august house is not to meet our personnel interest, but to meet the needs of the people of Eastern Equatoria state,” said the speaker.

The state governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, thanked members of the legislative assembly for electing the “right person to the right post”.

“Tobiolo has the commitment and the political will to deliver to the expectation of the MPs and the state community,” said Lobong.

Meanwhile, a swearing-in occasion planned for the Monday flopped after the chief justice failed to show up for the ceremony.
