Mapel market temporarily closed amid security fears
October 22, 2014 (WAU) – Police in Western Bahr el Ghazal’s Jur River county have announced the temporary closure of Mapel’s main market due to security fears.
“The market was closed today (Tuesday) in a security move to quell down the situation following the death of one man who was killed on Tuesday evening in the town,” Mapel police sergeant Michael Mayen Atem told Sudan Tribune.
“Our police forces are now joined by military police to patrol the town for the meantime in anticipation of public panic,” he added.
Atem said the deceased had been identified as Majok Thick Anai from Warrap state’s Tonj East county.
Police said he had been stabbed to death by one of his colleagues after the pair quarrelled at the motor bike repair garage where they both worked.
Atem said the alleged perpetrator was now in police custody and an investigation had been launched into the circumstances of the incident.
