Heavy fighting Between EDF and LRA in Lowai

Equatoria Defence Forces (EDF)

PRESS RELEASE

August 3rd, 2004

Members of Ugandans Lords resistance Army yesterday ( 2nd August 2004) attacked the village of Lowai which on previous occasions had also come under RLA attacks.

Earlier, the LRA who were withdrawing from Moti and Kiliu villages and headed towards Juba , were attacked by our gallant forces after EDF/SPLA reinforcements arrived from Magwi and this led to their task force to be scattered. Some of the LRA rebels later regrouped and then they headed towards Lowai where they clashed with EDF forces.

EDF lost one soldier and two were wounded. Scores of LRA rebels were killed or wounded but we have no confirmation of exact figures yet as the fighting still continue. The commanders have no word yet on civilian casualties in this latest fighting.

It seems some groups of the LRA are now desperately trying to reach Imatong mountains because of the pressure by Ugands’s Army ( UPDF) who have occupied their headquarters near Juba. But our forces will continue to block their passage via our villages until Lord Kony is finished once for all.
