The engineering supervisor at Al-Wadi Engineering Company, Omer Ali, told Sudan Tribune that gunmen riding horses and camels attacked the engineers’ residence on Sunday night, killing one engineer and wounding two others.

He said the three victims were supervising development projects carried out by the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) in West Darfur state, pointing that more than three companies are involved in construction projects including schools, hospitals, roads and water sources.

Ali pointed that all construction workers had stopped working due to continued killing incidents in the area, saying that development projects could not be carried out lack of security and stability.

He demanded the DRA and the government of West Darfur to provide security for personnel of companies working in the state, noting the DRA is carrying out several projects to provide the necessary essential services.

Two engineers had been abducted last month in East Darfur state before they were later released after paying 150.000 pounds (SDG) ransom.

After the tribal clashes of last year, Darfur now is the scene of attacks by militiamen, armed banditry and criminal activities which became a major source of instability during the recent months.
