December 1, 2014 (WAU) – South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state has released the results for the senior secondary school leaving exam.
Wau’s Standard Secondary school has emerged as among the country’s top 10 performers after the results were announced on Monday.
The school shined with 96.7%, while John Paul Secondary School scored 89.7%.
The state ranked fifth overall, behind Lakes state in first place with scores of 82.2%.
At the other end of the scale, Eastern Equatoria was the worst-performing state, ranked in last place.
Samuel Mabek Mario from the Standard Secondary School was ranked in the top 10 best performing students, achieving a score of 89.3%.
Of the 3,532 students who sat for the exams in Western Bahr el Ghazal state, just 1,726 passed.
Following the release of the exam results, state minister for education Michael Maduct Chan said it was clear government schools were under-performing, with private schools achieving much better results.
The minster has applauded the students’ hard work at private schools, urging the directors at the ministry of education to investigate the poor performance at government’s schools.
