N. Bahr el Ghazal assembly appoints new heads of specialised committees
December 8, 2014 (JUBA) – The parliament of South Sudan’s border state of Northern Bahr el Ghazal announced on Monday that the new heads of specialised committees have taken oath of office.
The swearing in ceremony comes days after the entire state leadership was dissolved, during which the speaker and the deputy were all removed and replaced.
The new parliamentary changes saw Isaac Makau Ayok appointed as the new speaker, with Akoon Diing Angok to serve as his deputy, replacing their respective predecessors Monica Achol William Amoi and Nyibol Achor.
The speaker and his deputy were sworn in at a function attended by the state’s caretaker governor, Kuel Aguer Kuel. Several cabinet members also took part in the ceremony held in the capital, Aweil.
According to the new list of heads of specialised committees, Angok Achuol has been named as the head of the parliamentary committee responsible for physical infrastructure, while William Wel Deng will oversea public service and human resources management and Santino Mayuat Ngong will take on education.
In other appointments, Garang Dau will head the parliamentary committee responsible for finance, while Achak Thiep Thiep becomes the head of information, communications and public relations committee.
Garang Mawien Mawien will head the legal affairs and human rights committee, with Luka Anyar Gau taking charge of security.
Aguer Wol Aguer, who served as speaker from 2010 to 2012 when he was replaced by Amoi, was named the head of the parliamentary committee responsible for agriculture. Deng Ayom Ayom moves to health and former deputy speaker Nyibol Achor is to head the peace and reconciliation committee, while Akon Wol takes on gender affairs.
Other members were also given different parliamentary assignments.
