S. Sudanese students in Uganda elect union leaders

December 19, 2014 (KAMPALA) – The union of South Sudanese student currently studying in Uganda’s higher institutions of learning have elected their new leaders.

Beny Nyinypiu, the union’s outgoing information secretary, described Thursday’s elections as having been conducted in a free and fair manner.

He lauded members of the electoral commission for the tremendous roles played.

“The election we conducted yesterday [Thursday] was the best of all kinds of election It involved all South Sudanese students from different ethnicity,” Nyinypiu said on Friday.

“Such a signal is the unity we need, for the spirit to continue with everyone in order for peaceful South Sudan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Makuei Aguer was elected the union president with 78 votes to be deputised by Winyuong Micheal who sailed un-opposed. Nelson Makoi was elected speaker, Kau Matueny as finance secretary and Angony Lual as the secretary general.

Daniel Deng was voted education secretary, while Mabor Deng became the new information secretary in an election observed by South Sudanese embassy officials.
