Sudan exempts certain classes of expatriates from national tax
January 22, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Secretary-General of the Organization of Sudanese Expatriates Affairs (OSEA) Haj Magid Siwar on Thursday announced a decision to suspend the collection of national tax imposed on clerks and workers while maintaining it on six categories of professionals “until further notice”.
The decision came in line with the directives of the 1st VP at the 6th convention of expatriates held recently in Khartoum.
The Ministry of Finance and OSEA have decided last year to reconsider a decision to impose a new tax on expatriates through a joint committee from the two sides.
The fees and taxes imposed on expatriates were gradually reduced in accordance with a reform program on levies that included national contribution, taxes and fees for media and higher education.
The Sudanese government is planning to attract expatriates’ investments and offer them incentives for making remittances in hard currency through official channels rather than taxing them.
