Grenade attack injures three in S. Sudan town

February 12, 2015 (JUBA/BOR) – A grenade attack in South Sudan’s Jonglei’s state has left three people seriously injured, authorities told Sudan Tribune on Friday.

Thursday’s incident involved three Ethiopians operating a supermarket in the capital, Bor.

Jonglei’s police commissioner, Thukul Ayom, confirmed the incident, saying an unknown person had hurled a hand grenade at the victims seated in front of the supermarket at about 10pm (local time).

“As you know, shops [in Bor] close at 9pm, but they stayed until 10pm,” Ayom said.

He said the trio had since been admitted to Bor civil hospital for treatment.

One of the victims reportedly sustained severe injuries in the surprise attack.

Bor county commissioner Mamer Ruuk strongly condemned the incident, urging residents to remain vigilant of any suspicious behaviour.

Meanwhile, police have been deployed around the Bor market to monitor the situation.
