SPLM-N delegation meets with top South African officials
February 14, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – A delegation from the Sudan People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) arrived in Johannesburg on Monday to participate in the 20th anniversary for the first post-apartheid parliament, the rebel movement said in a statement.
The delegation consisted of chairman Malik Agar, Secretary General Yasir Arman and its representative in South Africa Saber Abu-Sa’diya.
The statement said the delegation met with president Jacob Zuma, his deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa, and speaker Baleka Mbete in their capacities as officials in South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party.
“This visit comes as a continuation of relations established between the SPLM and the ANC. The SPLM-N delegation explained during this visit what is going in Sudan, especially human rights abuses and repression of the regime and setting up elections that do not represent the popular will of the Sudanese people,” the statement said.
“The delegation also explained what was going on from oppression and commission of war crimes, and to explain developments including signing of Sudan call [accord] between Sudan forces that represent the core of the Sudanese opposition,” it added.
The SPLM-N stressed its adherence to the accord and dismissed “rumours” of seeking compromise with the Sudanese government and recalled resolution 456 issued by the African Union regarding a constitutional conference for Sudanese parties that should be preceded by a preparatory meeting in AU headquarters in Addis Ababa.
