Mukhtar al-Asam, NEC chief said in a meeting with representatives of political parties participating in the elections and independent candidates on Sunday there are 7133 polling stations across the country besides 11.000 election committees.

He added that political parties participating in the elections should furnish the NEC with names of their representatives in order to approve them as monitors who have the right to be present at the polling stations during the voting period.

Al-Asam pointed out that the NEC determined the spending limit according to the law, saying the highest spending will go to the overall elections campaign to be followed by the campaign of the presidential candidate and then the national and regional constituencies.

He added the NEC will continue to consult with the various political parties on the spending limits besides allowing candidates to have equal access to national media outlets.

The NEC chief noted that results of the presidential elections will be announced on 27 April at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum.

The NEC head of polling control committee; al-Hadi Mohamed Ahmed, for his part announced that the polling rules, saying they will print 85 million ballot papers for all elections levels.

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) rejected calls by Sudanese opposition to postpone the general elections scheduled for April until after the national dialogue and formation of a transitional government and insists that it is a constitutional requirement that must be met.

Last week, the opposition alliance of the National Consensus Forces (NCF) and the opposition Reform Now Movement (RNM) launched two separate campaigns for poll boycott.
