New political party launched in South Sudan
February 23, 2015 (JUBA) – The People’s Liberal Party (PLP), a newly established opposition political party, was officially launched in South Sudan last Sunday.
Isaac Deng Malueth, a party’s secretary general, said PLP will mainly strive to ensure a liberal society is fully created for the future generation of the world’s youngest nation.
“The People’s Liberal Party seeks to advance its aims at every level of decision making and it works outside as well as inside existing political structures and encourages people and communities to make use of power,” he said at the launch in Juba.
“The Liberal party strives to translate it beliefs and aims into policies and programs which are kept under review to ensure that they meet the changing circumstances in South Sudan,” added Maleuth.
Officials say the party’s success will hinge on building a society in which every citizen possesses liberty and security and remains free from poverty, ignorance and conformity.
“The People’s Liberal Party shall rise above tribalism, nepotism, religious, sectarian and social differences,” said its secretary-general.
Interim president Mayen Peter Majongdit said the party will offer new political solutions to South Sudan fragile political system.
“We just inherited Khartoum’s political system which involves dictatorship [and] marginalisation,” said Majondit. “That has made it difficult and we will never have transparent political environment.”
He said transparency will be at the forefront of governance when PLP assumes power.
“The People’s Liberal Party will guarantee formation of liberal society, securing future for the next generation and economic policy,” said Majongdit.
“We own our resources and will work with other countries to put South Sudan on international level with value and respect,” he added.
