Eritrean Airlines launches Port Sudan route

March 1,2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Eritrean Airlines on Sunday announced launching a new flight services to Sudan’s Red Sea state capital, Port Sudan from Asmara.

eritrean_airlines_2011.jpgAccording to the state-run Eritrean Television (ERITV) the inaugural ceremony was held at the premises of Port Sudan international Airport in the presence of Eritrean minster of Tourism, Askalu Menkorios, Red Sea state officials as well as other Eritrean senior government officials.

The inaugural ceremony begun with artistic and cultural show staged by the Eritrean community members residing in Sudan.

Speaking at the occasion, Menkorious, said the launch of the new route to Sudanese main Sea gate way would create a new opportunity to further enhance tourism, trade, investment and social ties between the two neighbouring countries.

In addition to previously existing routes to Sudan, the newly commenced flight services Eritrean aviation officials said would allow better connectivity option between peoples of the two nations.

Eritrea is among the major destinations for Sudanese tourists with the Red Sea nation’s potential of attracting thousands of Sudanese every year.

At the occasion, governor of the Sudan’s Red sea state Mohamed Tahir Ella said the new flights will boost the people based historical relations between the two countries.

” The flight would make significant contribution to Sudanese people who desire to spend their honeymoon in Eritrea,” said Ella.

He added it will also facilitate movement of people and there by enhance social and economic ties between the countries.
