Warrap governor appoints new anti-graft boss

March 03, 2015 (JUBA) – The overnor of South Sudan’s Warrap state, Nyandeng Malek, has appointed Rose Acindhel the new chairperson of the anti-corruption commission.

Acindhel takes over a position that was vacant since 2010.

The anti-graft boss described corruption as a cancer that needed to be fought by all citizens and stakeholders.

“Corruption is insidious for the country that retards developmental process. It is like a cancer that keeps gnawing at the system till corrective surgery is performed,” said Acindhel.

“Therefore, it’s imperative for our people in Warrap state and South Sudan as a country to stand up and fight out this evil,” she added.

The official called for cooperation from all government institutions and members of the public to join her office in fighting corruption.

South Sudan Anti-Corruption Commission (SSACC) is an autonomous and impartial body corporate established under Section 147 of the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan, 2005 as read with Section 6 of the Southern Sudan Anti-Corruption Act, 2009.

The anti-corruption body has a mandate, inter alia, to protect public property and investigate cases of corruption with a view to protecting public property, as well as in the private sector and combating administrative malpractices in public institutions.
