Suspected raiders kidnap two children in Jonglei
March 9, 2015 (JUBA/BOR) – Suspected raiders from South Sudan’s Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) kidnapped two children in Bor county on Sunday, relatives and officials said.
At least three people were reportedly injured following the incident.
“They are children of Thon Malual – his son and daughter,” a relative, only identified as Jok told Sudan Tribune by phone from the Jonglei state capital, Bor.
“Those were his only children,” he added.
Mamer Ruuk, the commissioner of Bor county confirmed the incident, saying the police was pursuing the raiders who abducted the two children from block eight.
An attempt to rescue the children reportedly failed even after police cordoned the area.
Several blocks were reportedly deserted by residents following Sunday’s surprise raid.
Cases of continuous cattle raids were reported in Baidit and Jale payams last week as several heads of cattle were rescued with causalities involved. Others were not traced.
There have been numerous pleas for government to prevent these cattle raid practices.
