Sudan Call forces not involved in S. Kordofan attacks: SPLM-N

March 14, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) said the Sudan Call forces are not involved in its military campaign aiming to prevent the conduct of the general elections in South Kordofan.

SPLM-N spokesperson, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, on Friday confirmed attacks on the position of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in Kalogi and other areas in South Kordofan state. he further said it came in support of a political campaign launched by the opposition forces to boycott the election across the country.

However, the SPLM-N secretary general Yasir Arman on Saturday issued a clarification saying these attacks are part of a defensive campaign undertaken by the rebel fighters to counter the summer military campaign launched on the directives of President Omer al-Bashir personally.

“The Sudan Call forces that work through peaceful means absolutely have no relation with this military campaign. The SPLM and the SPLA leadership alone is responsible of this campaign,” further said the SPLM-N secretary.

Last December the National Consensus Forces (NCF) which is an alliance of left and center political parties, the National Umma Party (NUP), and civil society groups signed the Sudan Call agreement with the rebel umbrella Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF).

The deal calls for a comprehensive settlement leading to end war and restoration of democratic rule in the east African country. It also came in support of the African Union roadmap to end war and achieve constitutional reforms.

Arman said they did not coordinate or consult with any political party on their military activities, adding the purpose of the Sudan Call is to achieve democratic change and preserve Sudan’s integrity.

The Sudan Call’s purpose “is to prevent that change leads to tear the country apart, and to establish an agreed democratic alternative avoiding the chaos,” he emphasised.

The Sudanese army Thursday said they repelled the SPLM-N attack on Kalogi garrison and inflected heavy casualties on the assailant rebel fighters.

The SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, on Saturday issued a second statement on the details of the recent attacks on the Sudanese army, claiming they killed 30 government troops in kalogi, 24 soldiers in Tusi
