S. Sudan army introduces public service vehicles on Juba-Nimule road
March 17, 2015 (JUBA) – The South Sudanese army (SPLA) announced on Monday the introduction of 20 public service vehicles along the 192km road that links the capital, Juba, to the Ugandan border town of Nimule.
The move, officials say, will reduce accident rates along the road.
“We already have 20 traveller buses in the public transport sector within Juba,” defense minister, Kuol Manyang Juuk told reporters in Juba.
According to Juuk, the transport sector still faces a huge gap.
“The transporters we have cause a lot of accidents because they are searching for money and we are losing a lot of lives,” he said.
Security, the minister stressed, should be promoted and that the SPLA vehicles were not only for business, but mainly seek to render better services.
“The policy of introducing such a move is the SPLA’s obligation to provide maximum protection to South Sudan since foreign bus companies are now part of insecurity to citizens,” said the minister.
Bonga Bus Company, a group under the army department for economic cooperation will manage the 20 vehicles.
