Sudan’s NEC says ballots in transit to polling stations
March 27, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The National Electoral Commission (NEC) in the Sudan announced that ballots will arrive at all polling stations in the country next Monday and that it is currently training more than 60,000 polling workers to manage the electoral process.
The body’s electoral registry chief Hadi Mohammed Ahmed said that ballots were allocated for each states of Sudan at 80% rate except for Khartoum and South Darfur states which was assigned 90% due to their high population density.
Ahmed told state news agency (NEC) further explained that voting is done in seven ballots.
He said that the number of expatriate voters includes 105,000 voters with seven polling stations outside Sudan including Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Britain, and Belgium.
The NEC official mentioned that training was given to state and national electoral officers, followed by the heads of the Higher Electoral Commissions and finally the junior polling workers.
He said that reports received by the NEC confirm that the electoral process is proceeding smoothly noting the good cooperation between security agencies in this regard.
The elections are scheduled to start in April 13.
